Transactions

Before 1956 Season: Signed by the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent.

December 14, 1960: Drafted by the Washington Senators from the New York Yankees in the 1960 expansion draft.

September 12, 1962 Pitcher Tom Cheney went 16 innings in a game against the Baltimore Orioles. Cheney would throw 228 pitches on the way to striking out 21 Orioles. This would establish a new A.L. record for strikeouts in an extra inning game. In collecting his record and the 2-1 victory, Cheney would strike every Baltimore Oriole out at least once. The game would finally end in the Senators favor when Bud Zipfel hit a home run in the top of the 16th (Zipfel singled in the 1st run in the 1st inning).
